Horse Lovers’ Treat

The Guardia Civil at the Puerto de Motril arrested a man for being in possession of an illegal weapon. It was during a routine embarking search of vehicles waiting to board the Volcán de Tejada ferry that the police found the homemade firearm inside a luxury car with a French number plate.

Music School Survives

The Motril Town Hall and the teaching staff at the Municipal Music School have reached an accord that will keep the school running, after all indicated that it would be closed down due to a lack of funding.

Chiringuitos Rescue Town Hall

On the 6th of August Salobreña announced that it didn’t have enough money to replace the missing or damaged wooden walkways on the beaches – such was the state of the municipal coffers. Bathers were not happy.

Brief Independence?

Torrenueva and Carchuna-Calahonda fought for a long time to gain administrative independence from Motril, eventually achieving it, albeit to a semi-autonomous degree, but now with the Government cuts, their independent state can be very brief, indeed.

Editorial Comment: A Slap in the Face

Some members of the Almuñécar hostelry community consider that the Fería de Dia, set up along Calle Pinto Rivera is little more than a ‘slap in the face’ from the Town Hall and many people would agree with them.
