Dark Ages Descend on La Herradura!

The La Herradura Medieval Fair kicks off on Friday the 15th at 18.00h and will conclude on Sunday. There will be stacks of activities, ranging from birds of prey to donkey rides, bouncy castles to the village’s brick and mortar one, and plenty of Medieval costumes and tasty morsels.

Vintage Car Meet

There will be a veteran and vintage car meet in La Herradura on the 29th, which will be too late to be included in the hard-copy edition, but will covered in the following edition.

Saving the Castle

The castle at Castell de Ferro, which was originally built around 1300, is very much the worse for wear – some believe that it is on the point of collapsing, thanks to a sizable crack through one of its three remaining walls.

Unstable Battlements

Trinidad Herrera, the Mayor of Almuñécar, got together with the Delegate for Culture for the Junta, Pedro Benzal and members of the municipal councillor team to work out what to do with parts of the old-town castle walls, which are in a lamentable state and are in danger of collapsing.

Cruises and Castles

When it was announced that the Costa Tropical was going to receive 18m euros for tourist infrastructure projects, everybody was over the moon. The next step was to submit proposals.

Almuñecar Facelift?

The Town Hall plans to rejuvenate the old town around the castle in Almuñecar and turn it into a tourist friendly area, using half a million euros from the 1.5m-euro fund set aside by becoming an official provincial tourist town.
The Town Council is looking forward to the economic boost that the new tourist status will bring and are pledging to give the town a facelift.

New Municipal Offices Near Castle

The residents of the San Miguel area (old town area around the Castle) of Almuñecar now have a local municipal office, which is located on Calle San Miguel, in what was the old school building.

Castle Moat A Mess

The neighbours of San Miguel Castle are not happy with the neglected state of the moat, which admittedly looks like the castle has been attacked by a herd of plastic-explosive-throwing midgets from Birminham. The Seaside Gazette had cause to go up there recently to take photos, so we can confirm that it is a mess.
