Trinidad Herrera, the Mayor of Almuñécar, got together with the Delegate for Culture for the Junta, Pedro Benzal and members of the municipal council team to work out what to do with parts of the old-town castle walls, which are in a lamentable state and are in danger of collapsing.
At the meeting with the Delegate the matter of legalising and regulating the municipal museum, El Cueva Siete Palacios, was discussed, which is a few papers short of being 100% registered as an official museum. Once that is sorted out Almuñécar could be chosen for the siting of the Local Area Archeological Deposit (Depósito Comarcal Arqueológico).
Getting back to the wobbly wall, on the 11th of January it was decided that urgent intervention was required for safety reasons – good job that it’s ‘urgent’ because a month has gone by, more or less with nothing happening.
So there you have it, walls that have stood for the last 500 years could very well crumble and cause a tourist to go home in a box, so urgent action will be taken some time or other…
