A-7 Confusion

The Province of Granada seems to be receiving one piece of bad news after another. First of all it was the negative from Brussels to route the Mediterranean rail-freight network via Costa Tropical, leaving Motril port without a rail connection, and then on the 26th of October, it was announced that the autovia construction between Taramay and Salobreña had seemingly ground to a halt.

No Rail Link for Motril

Finally, the powers that be in Brussels have decided that the Europe-wide, railway-freight network will not pass between Almeria and Malaga via the coast, giving Motril Port a rail connection at last. It seems that the Costa Tropical has been put on the back burner yet again.

Funds for The N-340

A-7 Road Accident

There was nasty accident on the A-7 Autovia yesterday evening, around 8pm on the 303 kilometre point; i.e., right in the middle of the Cantarrijan bridge, which spans the Malaga-Granada provincial boundary.

A-7 Protests

Politicians, business owners and residents in general gathered along the N-340 where it passes through Torrenueva to protest at the lack of progress on the Mediterranean motorway (autovia) where it passes through the province of Granada – i.e., the only province in the whole of the Mediterranean coastline of Spain that does not have the A-7 thoroughfare.

New Roundabout Demand

With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Spoilt Malaga

Many Granadinos couldn’t believe what they were reading in their daily newspapers; while the A-7 hardly advances and in some cases has stood still for over a year, the bloody Malgueños have had a troublesome bend in their long-existing stretch of the A-7 straightened out, bless them.

Top Tunnel

The A-7 autovia tunnel, Cantalobos has been voted the safest tunnel in Spain by the national motoring club RACC!

Bridge Disaster Untried

Five years have passed since the A-7 bridge collapse in Torrecuevas, when six workers fell to their deaths, but even after all this time, nobody has been held responsible for the disaster – Spain’s judicial system at its worst.
