Many Granadinos couldn’t believe what they were reading in their daily newspapers; while the A-7 hardly advances and in some cases has stood still for over a year, the bloody Malgueños have had a troublesome bend in their long-existing stretch of the A-7 straightened out, bless them.

The Ministro de Fomento (Public Works) gleefully announced that the PSOE had kept its promise, providing relief to traffic congestion on the A-7 motorway bypass. Twelve kilometres of brand-spanking-new autovia now connects Guadalhorce (A-367) to Virreina (near Ciudad Jardín). According to the Minister, José Blanco, this latest addition now absorbs 55,000 vehicles a day.

Great! That little project concludes with a spiffing 6-month delay, whilst over in Granada we’re running already to a five year delay! Málaga gets an improvement to an existing autovia and Granada has to make do with the old N-340. Good grief, the ride along the stretch between Salobreña and Torrenueva is bumpier than the Berlin run 1942!

It is no exaggeration that the further you move away to the east from Sevilla, where the Junta lives, the less importance you have in the Junta’s list of priorities. Jaén, Granada and Almería are the poor sisters of the pampered Sevilla, Cordoba, Málaga golden triangle.
