CAS at Almuñécar Sunday Market

CAS (The Costa Animal Society) has a weekly stall at the Sunday Market in Almuñécar. All the funds made at this market go to help the abandoned animals in the area.

Hummel is Danish

The European Men’s Handball Championships in Serbia are happening as I write this article. I watched Denmark lose to both Poland and Serbia, but smiled at the fact that at least both winning teams were sporting Danish uniforms. I recognized the distinctive chevron sleeve trim on the jerseys and shorts and knew instantly that they were hummel (spelled with lower case h) uniforms. This chevron trim and a stylized bumblebee are the company’s logo.

Next RNA Meeting

This just to remind you all that the meeting on Tuesday will be at Restaurant Rincon de Peña Parda at the usual time of 1300. I need to tell them how many will be taking the menu del dia (menu as shown at last meeting). So, can you please let me know

Green Women Against Tree Felling

The Almuñécar-based women’s ecologist group, La Asociación de Mujeres Ecologistas Sexitanas, has denounced what they claim to be “extreme tree Felling” on the Paseo del Altillo gardens. They say that around a dozen emblematic trees were cut down from at base level, especially ‘ficus’ (rubber-plant trees) near the car-park entrance. They consider that these trees had formed a fundamental part of the panorama.

We don’t get that much news from Guatemala and this month is no different, with the following story being just about on the limit of tastelessness and idiocy.
Step up, Tun Jonah Gómez, an interesting chap from the town of Retalhuleu, which is around 250 kilometres south of the capital. Three Spanish tourists in Figueras, Girona, were shocked and dismayed to discover a hidden web-cam in their hotel shower. The two brothers and a girlfriend found the camera after noticing some tape on an air vent high up the shower wall.
