The painting-exhibition hall (Galería Carmar), which can be found just before the main-road flyover bridge, over the Jete road), will be hosting the works of Judith Reason from the 7th to the 30th of August.

Baracoa Fundraiser

Joaquín from El Chambao de Joaquín held his annual fund-raising event on July 23rd and 24th at Plaza Nueva in La Herradura. From what I have been told, the fund-raiser was to assist the town of Baracoa in Cuba with funding for social installations such as schools and hospitals.

Well known, long-time Almuñécar resident & NCA-trained artist, Brian Jackson, is holding an exposition of his oil painting works in conjunction with Hotel Las Arrayanes, which is located on the Paseo de Cotobro in Almuñécar.
Shopping Centre Closer?

Three different companies have expressed interest in building the Cortijo del Conde leisure & shopping centre. The proposed installations would be along the lines of Málaga province’s Ingenio, which attracts thousands of shoppers from over the border in Granada.
Municipal Pool Completed

The good folk – together with the bad ones – of Vélez de Benaudalla can now boast a municipal swimming pool! Woo-hoo! They already claim to have a beach – better-said a ‘strand,’ which really is a very nice place to spend a hot afternoon in the shade of the riverbank trees.
British Tourist Dies

Tragic news was reported on the 21st of July, when an English tourist drowned off Playa Granada, owing to intense stomach cramp brought on by bathing to soon after having eaten.
Hydro Plant for Motril

Anybody that has driven along the A-323 as it passes through the canyon below Vélez Benaudalla cannot have failed to have been distracted by the manmade waterfall called Cañizares, which plummets down from a water channel above, before disappearing under the road – it is quite spectacular.
New Medical Centre

The new medical centre, situated in the Varadero (port quarters) will be able to cover the needs of some 3,500 locals, according to the Mayor, Carlos Rojas. In other words, it will provide a medical service for the residents not only of El Varadero, but also of Santa Adela and Zona Sur of Motril.
Identification of Blood Receptors

Meanwhile, up at Hospital Santa Ana, a new system for the identification of blood receptors has been set up.
Basically, the system provides a bar code for everything from the bags of blood to the patient’s wrist band, to make the whole system run more efficiently and with fewer mistakes.
