Municipal Pool Completed

The good folk – together with the bad ones – of Vélez de Benaudalla can now boast a municipal swimming pool! Woo-hoo! They already claim to have a beach – better-said a ‘strand,’ which really is a very nice place to spend a hot afternoon in the shade of the riverbank trees.

Dignitaries from the regional and provincial authorities were present at the inauguration ceremony, but they all chickened out of having a swim – don’t know what they’re worried about; after all, there’s far more sharks amongst their ranks than in Vélez Benaudalla’s new swimming pool.

The pool had a budget of half a million euros and finally satisfied a long-time demand for such facilities in the village.
Just over half of the funds were supplied by the Junta, (€261,000), whilst the provincial authorities threw in €94,000, leaving the Town Hall to find the remaining €167,000.
