Funding Blocked

The Tax Office (Hacienda) is withholding 400,000 euros from the Almuñécar Town Hall, for not having its accounting up to date. But Almuñécar is not alone in this because a total of 17 other municipalities have shared the same fate for the same reason.

Big Flag for Almuñécar

Residents of Almuñecar will have noticed all the work going on around the fountain up on La Carrera de la Concepción roundabout (just across from the bus station).
Well, the work is all in aid of Columbus Day, which is this Wednesday, and the work includes an 18m flagpole, which will be situated in the fountain and will fly a Spanish flag which will probably be about the size of a small country. The Town Council is looking forward to the economic boost that the new tourist status will bring and are pledging to give the town a facelift.

AECC Charity Run

As always, the race saw many entrants running for our, much-loved, local, cancer charity, AECC (Asociacion Española Contra el Cancer). These local residents all gave up their time, not just during the run, but also obtaining sponsorship and training for the day. Some ran just a couple of K’s, while others ran the entire 14… with some respectable times we might add!

Supreme Court Finds Against Almuñecar

This time it wasn’t Benny that received a knuckle rapping from the Supreme Court, but the PSOE-PP coalition council from the year 2000, who the court considered had abused their municipal prerogative over minor changes to the standing PGOU.
