As I write this, there are now actually items of heavy machinery working on the renovation of Av. Garcia Lorca. I kid you not. No more of the two men with shovels. It makes you think, though.

Meteorological Pastime

Finally, something at which the British excel; at which, in fact, they are unsurpassed. I refer of course to our national pastime of complaining about the weather. Oh, what fun we’ve had for the past month.

International Club of Salobreña

The International Club of Salobreña concluded its program for the year with a pre-Christmas lunch at the Hotel Salobreña. In acknowledgement of economic times, all the food and drink was provided by members, proving that culinary skills are alive and well in the International community.

Paws for Thought

Now, here’s a lovely thing! A distinguishing characteristic of Brits everywhere is their attitude towards animals. “Ahhhhh!” we say. So the seemingly thoughtless abandonment of domestic animals here has always been the topic of much tut-tutting.

Road Works in Town

Concerning the roadworks in town – on Calle Nueva and Av. Federico Garcia Lorca, the first has been a mess for over six months now – due, as reported earlier, to contractor problems, which, according to a well-informed funcionario in the Town Hall, are not easily solved.

Thought I’d ease myself into this new role by following up on a couple of items featured in our December issue; there being safety in the known and all that.
