A power cut is neither romantic nor cuts down on your electricity bill; you fall over trying to undress rapidly in the dark and so lose the will to live and you’ll still get charged for the utility service even when there isn’t one.

So you can imagine just how cheesed off business owners are down on Burriana Beach in Nerja because of a series of power outages starting on Friday on the eve of the long, bankholiday weekend – great timing!
The Asociación de Empresarios de Nerja (AEN) knows that it is going to cost them dear, owing to the loss of fresh, refrigorated stock, damaged machinery (fridges and freezers, etc), and the being left with irate customers whom they cannot serve because they can’t cook anything.
Logically, The AEN is advising businesses to formally log every incident, keep official report numbers, gather evidence (like photos and invoices), and check their insurance policies to prepare for financial claims against the utility company.
The fact is that Burriana is an important economic and tourist asset for Nerja, matching the pull of the Cuevas and El Balcón de Europa.
After all, the good folk of Maro (and the bad ones) remember spending Christmas under a powercut with no Guiding Star to light the way…
