A Colder Bank-Holiday

The coming bank-holiday weekend for the Virgen del Pilar, which ends on Monday the 12th, has a weather forecast predicting “polar cold” for the province according to the provincial press! But don’t panic!

Yes, the entry “polar air” will cause a sharp temperature drop across Spain, lowering minimum temperatures by about 5°C in Mediterranean regions; i.e., Costa Tropical.

Today around 16.00h the temperatures both on the coast and in the Valle de Lecrín will be around 23/24ºC but by midnight the sea will keep temperatures on the coast to around 18ºC whilst inland they will have dropped to 15ºC .

Early Sunday morning they will have dropped to between 15/17ºC on the coast and 11ºC inland. The highs for Sunday are 24/25ºC both on the coast and inland.

On the big day, the 12th, the minimums are 16/17ºC on the coast and 12ºC inland, and when we say inland, we don’t mean in the upper Alpujarra because night temperatures are lower (9ºC).

As for the rest of the week, early forecasts suggest it will remain sunny, slightly cool, and completely dry.

Conclusion: When ideal reporters talk of Polar Cold, it is relative because nowhere in Spain (except for high-mountain areas) is it going to go below 7ºC, even in the dead of night.
