The Mayor of Almuñécar, Ruiz Joya, didn’t exactly get a hero’s welcome when he visited Torrecuevas but rather was confronted with gruff complaints and demands.

Is nothing sacred!
Anyway, Juan José Ruiz Joya was informed that the sanitation (mains water/sewage), street lighting and the rambla need to be sorted out. The visit was part of the Mayor’s tour-around-the-barrios, public-relations idea during which he would meet the residents of these barrios (quarters) and listen to what they had to say.
“The first thing that I gathered in Torrecuevas is the affection that the residents have for their barrio and for one of the iconic areas of our municipality. They want the best for their barrio and are highly attentive to what happens in it,” Ruiz Joya noted, adding, “It has been important to be able to listen to them directly, understand their concerns, and gather their suggestions on day-to-day matters.”
Wors has already begun on the sanitation problem next to the Taller Hermanos Cervilla and within Torrecuevas itself, as part of a project covering different sections of the network. The street lighting along the A-4050 (Otívar road) between Las Peñuelas and Venta Luciano was also discussed; a contract is to be awarded to a company that put in a bid next week.
As for the rambla (which runs past the aqueduct and its square) and other issues related to maintenance, they were mentioned, but nothing was promised.
When the meeting was concluded, the Mayor was put the right way up, untied and allowed to go…. just kidding!
