Noisy Moped Campaign

Gualchos-Castell de Ferro Town Hall has launched a campaign to crack down on noisy scooters and mopeds, which tear around the villages, many with defective bafflers on their exhausts.

This comes after numerous complaints were received by less than impressed locals, complaining of the god-awful noise when people are trying to rest.

Consequently, the Town Hall decided that it would have to act and called for the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil to look out for the blighters.

Controls are set up at several points around the municipality, riders stopped and their nefarious machines inspected and decibel readings taken. All the paperwork is checked and the bikes checked over in general to make sure they are roadworthy rather than scrap-heap worthy.

The Mayor of Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Toñi Antequera, said, “We want to guarantee people’s peace and rest. We are aware about this bothersome situation provoked by excessive noise coming from certain 49cc machines and for this reason, we decided to intensify road checks and to act against those vehicles that do not comply with legislation.”

“It’s not about going after moped/scooter users in general as a means of transport, but rather to avoid behaviour and situations that are prejudicial to residents,” she added.
