Dúrcal Medical Worker Protest

The Dúrcal Centro de Salud in the Valle de Lecrín held a protest outside the centre yesterday over the recent attack on a member of its staff.

It wasn’t only doctors and nurses who particpated but also politicians and workers-union representative, as well as locals, all to bring home a message of complete rejection to this type of behaviour.

During the gathering, the Regional Director of the Metropolitan Granada Health District, Eladio Gil Piñero, read out a manifesto in which it was stated, “Everybody has the right to health care in Spain in a safe and peaceful environment, free from any form of violence.”

Editorial comment: verbally or physically assaulting those that dedicate their professional life to helping others in medical need, is dispicable.

These health workers, constantly have to put up with people who are too lazy to make an appointment with their GP and just turn up at A&E for a medical condition that cannot be reasonably considered an emergency.

They are underpaid and overworked and, by some, undervalued. Let those that do, pay for private medical coverage – they don’t deserve our excellent public health service.
