The Almuñécar Policía Local announced that during this month and August there will be no Friday or Sunday street markets, which is normal step taken during the summer periods.

Therefore, Plaza Blas Infante (which is where they are normally held) will be availabe all week round for parking… except for most of August when the square will be lost as a parking area during most of the month. Therefore, no markets and no parking, either.
Of course, the cancellation of the weekly street market is heralded as an improvement in the number of summer parking availability… if you don’t take into account August, that is.
The Town Hall communiqué doesn’t mention it, but although the Plaza Blas Infante will be availabe every day of July, unlike the rest of the year, you will have to pay to park there. The money goes to a charity organisation.

We were planning on going to the market in Almunecar this Friday, until we read this article. The question we faced on reading this on Thursday 2nd of July was will the market be closed as of Friday 3rd July? We searched numerous websites for clarity and none had been updated, they all showed no Friday market for about a week during the summer fiesta in August. We eventually contacted Almunecar Tourist Office and they were not aware of the prospect of two months with no market. They questioned our source of information and we informed them of this article. They then called the local Police and later informed us that the market will be open today Friday 3rd July, but who really knows?
