An Unexpected Reaction

The Granada Policía Local arrested a woman on Monday after allegedly trying to stab one of their police officers.

Things had started differently because the police had received a call from a woman saying that her husband was threatening to knife her.

However, when the officers arrived at the scene of the domestic disturbance, they tried to speak with the man. Suddenly and reportedly, the woman grabbed a kitchen knife off the table and tried to stab one of the officers. It was thanks to the riot shield that the officer was carrying that she failed to press the attack home.

Unsurprisingly, she was arrested on the spot and remanded in custody pending an appearance before a police court.

All this happened aroud 22.05h on Calle Ledaña, in La Chana area of the city, which used to have a conflictive-area reputation, although one of our readers who lives there says that things have changed. The high-rise council flats in Almuñécar in La Carrera part of town has the nickname, La Chana, precisely because of this reputation.

Editorial comment: the husband, whom she had reported as threatening to stab her, was not arrested, unsurprisingly, given the doubt concerning her version of the events prior to the officers’ arrival. It is possible, of course, that she wanted to make amends to her husband after having called the police on him, fearing later reprisals.
