The Nerja Cave Festival is officially returning this summer for its 64th edition after a complicated bureaucratic hold-up.

Event Dates: Scheduled to run from mid-July to early August.

The Lineup: The official performance schedule will be revealed in the coming days.

New Management: A five-year contract (2026–2030) has been awarded to Pies Compañía Discográfica S.L. with a total budget of €12,024,780.

Local Importance: The return acts as a major economic boost for local tourism following the unexpected cancellations of alternative summer, music events like Oh See! Nerja and Solaris Nerja.

Historical Timeline: five young men from Maro discovered the narrow cave entrance in January 1959 by following a swarm of bats. By June the following year, the caves were opened to the public.

On the day of the inauguration the first concert down there was a  performance by the French ballet La Tour de París.

In 1960, the cave joined a national, tourist agenda comprising 35 cities. Today, however, only Nerja, Granada, and Santander still successfully host their original festivals.

The festival has historically hosted world-class performers spanning classical music, opera, dance, and flamenco. Iconic names tied to its legacy include: Classical & Opera: Maya Plisetskaya, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, Alfredo Kraus, José Carreras, Montserrat Caballé, and Kiri Te Kanawa.

Flamenco & Spanish Arts: Paco de Lucía, Antonio El Bailarín, Sara Baras, and Miguel Poveda.

There have also been famous pop & singer-songwriters such  as Joan Manuel Serrat and Pablo Alborán
