Today sees the first day of the blitz on vermin in Almuñécar, or better said, tonight, as pumping insecticide down into the sewer system is a nocturnal operation.

The campaign is divided into phases with the last one concluding on Wednesday the 17th, explained the Councillor for the Environment, Lucía González.

The campaign does not only intend to exterminate insects, such as roaches, but also rats as well, both in Almuñécar and La Herradura.

Councillor González pointed out that these operations will be carried out at night and in phases, in order to “cover the entire municipal area and guarantee maximum efficiency.”

She explained that it would not only involve the main thoroughfares but the streets leading of them, too.

Tonight workers will begin at the roundabout with the octopus (at the bottom end of Avenida Don Juan Carlos I and from there on through Paseo del Altillo, Paseo de la Caletilla, Paseo Miguel Ángel Blanco, Paseo San Cristóbal, and Paseo de Cotobro, as well as on Avenida Amelia Sánchez de Alcázar and Calle Mar de Plata.

In La Herradura, work will be carried out on Paseo Andrés Segovia, Rambla del Espinar, Avenida Prieto Moreno, the urban centre, Plaza de la Independencia, Calle Canalejas, Calle Real, Calle Las Morenas, Calle Luna,  Calle Doña Blanca, as well as Calle La Maravillas,  Calle San Ramón, Calle Barranquillo and the area around the cemetery.

Tomorrow, work will be carried out from Playa Cabría all along Velilla to the octpus roundabout. Also included will be Calle Ibiza, Calle Menorca, and Calle Formentera, Calle Carlos Cano near Playa Cálida.

The last phase will conclude on Avenida Costa del Sol, Carrera de la Concepción, Calle Puerta de Granada, Calle Jesús Nazareno, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle Vélez, Plaza Los Higuitos, and Calle Trinidad, Calle Real, Calle Alta del Mar, Calle Baja del Mar, Plaza de la Rosa, and Calle Aduana Vieja.

So, if you live along one of those, expect to hear cockroaches and rats screaming for mercy and fiendish cackling coming from the workers.
