We can start with the body found floating in La Herradura Bay, but there was also a death in Dúrcal and an accident involving a van and a pedestrian on a crossing in Almuñécar.

The body was located by a Guardia Civil, Maritime Service, patrol boat, which took it to the Marina del Este, and from there by road to the Anatómico Forense de Granada for indentification and an autopsy.

The accident in Almuñécar took place at the top of Avenida Don Juan Carlos, on the zebra crossing that connects the cul-de-sac, leading to garages only, running between Edificio Huerto del Barco and the junior school, and the corner of the residential complex for the elderly; i.e. about 100 metres from the bus station.

I was on my bike behind a large van when the driver suddenly tried to pull into the said cul-de-sac. Unfortunately, an elderly couple pushing a young man in wheelchair were just stepping onto the zebra and the van hit the elderly gentleman, narrowly avoiding pinning him to a bottlebank, recycling bin.

He fell to the ground clutching his ankle. The driver got out, a man in his late 30s, and apologised profusely but to no avail.

The policía Local were called and arrived together with an ambulance. I asked the man if he could move his ankle but he responded that he didn’t want to move it.

If you look at the photo you can place the accidently easily, which took place just coming up to 12 noon, and see the elderly gentleman still sitting on the pavement with the police car already at the scene.

Lastly, upon arriving back in Dúrcal, there was a commotion with a small crowded gathered next to a black van belonging to a funeral home half way down Calle Motril. It appears that a 75-year-old man had just got his motorbike out and was driving away when he suffered a massive heart attack and died on the spot.

A strange day, indeed.
