The whole event has been instigated by Eco&Dive as part of the national campaign entitled, LIBERA 1m2, with the collaboration of Ecoembes y SEO/BirdLife, and the Red de Vigilantes Marinos.

Things will begin at 10:30h on the said beach with divers fishing out rubbish along the seabed and volunteers sorting it into categories and logging details. The obtained data will be incorporate into a large, scientific database, based on citizen participation.

The kilos of rubbish collected during the day will be exchanged for kilos of food, which will later be delivered to the Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos; therfore the more rubbish fished out, the greater will be the donation to the foodbanks.

Eco&Dive’s, Gemma Infante, explained, “In last year’s event, 240 kilos of rubbish from the seabed or floating in the water were successfully collected up thanks to the involvement and collaboration of the volunteers.”

The LIBERA 1m2 campaign will feature more than 800 ‘action points’ across the country this year, mobilising thousands of volunteers in favour of nature conservation and the protection of natural spaces.
