Palacete del Corregidor

The Almuñécar Councillor for Contracting & Purchasing, Rafael Caballero, announced that the Board had agreed to award a lease for the Palacete del Corregidor.

Now, if you are not sure where that it is, it’s on Calle Escamado behind the Town Hall square on the Old-Town side. Encarni used to run the restaurant there before moving to El Mirador on the N-340 above Cotobro.

According to Councillor Caballero, (who is also the Chairman of the Mancomunidad) the lease will for run 15 years and will cost the leaseholder 13,000 euros a  year to the Town Coffers.

He went on to say, “With this lease, we are taking an important step to enhance an emblematic building of our municipal heritage and turn it into a new tourism resource for Almuñécar.”

The Palacete del Corregidor is a municipal building of over 1,100 sq/m distributed across several floors with a restaurant occupying the top floor and roof terrace.

As for the name, a Corregidor was a local administrator for  the king, meaning that he is more or less equivalent to the English title Sheriff (As in Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham). Sheriff comes from an Old-English term, Reeve who managed a Shire. Shire Reeve was contracted over time to Sheriff.

Anyway, the Palacete del Corregidor will provide  high-quality boutique accommodation for the local tourist sector, explained Councillor Caballero… whose own surname literally means Knight in its original sense.
