Facing opposition from locals and political parties, Mayor Ruiz Joya has changed his mind concerning the Estación Nautica, which will now not be demolished.
The Mayor’s announced support for the implementation of the Intermediate Vocational Training Programme (Grado Medio) in Underwater and Hyperbaric Operations. This had been a request from the local, senior school,IES Villanueva del Mar.

Opposition spokesperson (socialist) for La Herradura, Álvaro López, commented, rectificar es de los sabios, which translates, roughly, to “a wise man changes his mind, a fool never will,” or for the longer, classical version by Alexander Pope.
Anyway, this spokesperson for the PSOE went on to say, “Announcing it is not enough; there must be action. The Estación Nautica has been closed and deteriorating for years. La Herradura cannot continue to watch a municipal asset be abandoned until someone tries to justify its sale or demolition.”
In other words Spokesman López is calling for an immediate plan for refurbishment, maintenance, security, cleaning, and commissioning, complete with a public roadmap and schedule.
He concluded with, “Are you going to turn this rectification into a useful and participatory project for La Herradura, or will you let the Estación Náutica fall back into neglect?”
