The Motril Fire Department and the Salobreña Policía Local worked together to pull a dog from the waters of Río Guadalfeo, which is in full flood.
The frame from a video posted on the provincial press, Ideal shows one dog being pulled out, but they had yet another to rescue. Both dogs were trapped in the mud, fallen branches and other vegetation.

According to the Salobreña Animal Refuge Association, it was almost impossible to reach the dogs, as they were stranded on a sort of mini islet in the river: “They were able to rescue one of them but they couldn’t get the other one out because it was too frightened to move.” She said that they are continuing to monitor the situation.
Apparently, both dogs had been in this position for four or five days, according to the person who raised the alarm.
She explained that the rescue operation was very difficult because of the high riverbank wall and because the “fire personnel were literally up to their waists in mud, which was almost like quicksand.”
The rescued dog now needs a new home, as it has no microchip. They animal shelter crew have given it the name, Río. It is a 3-years old (+/-) Belgian Malinois.
I took this video of the Guadalfeo were it passes under the Lobres bridge and it is in full spate yesterday.
