Rockfall Blocks Playa Rijana Access

Gualchos-Castell de Ferro Town Hall is evaluating how to best deal with the rockslide that has closed access to the popular, Playa Riajana.

Access is afforded from the parking area on the N-340 and through a tunnel beneath the main road, which is where the rocks have come down, it appears.

Mayor Toñi Antequera pointed out that this is far from the only damaged caused by the chain of gales that have hit the coast, as the junior school Virgen del Carmen has a leaky roof between the entrance and the dining hall. The infant school, Escuela Infantil 8 de Marzo, has a problem with its roof, too.

As for the main beaches in front of the town, there has been a loss of sand. The Town Hall is waiting for the last of the gales to pass before attempting to sort out the beaches.

Finally, rural lanes have suffered damage from the collapse of roadside banks, making access to farming land and rural dwellings difficult.
