The Guardia Civil are investigating the death of a woman in her early 60s in Castell de Ferro, whose body was discovered on Wednesday night.

The body of the 62-year-old woman was discovered in the Rambla de Hileros, on the inland side of the main road around 21.30h lying within an irrigation channel (acequia).

The Mayor, of Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Toñi Antequera, confirmed via social media the discovery and that it is under investigation.

“After such a complicated day that we had owing to the wind and rain, we received the sad news last night,” she said on Thursday.

She went on to explain that the victim’s family had reported her missing Wednesday morning, although the Guardia Civil say that no official report was made.

The body was recovered and taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal y Forense in Granada for an autopsy. The Police, however, say that the body showed no external signs of having met a violent death.
