Menorca Flight Connection

Granada Airport is constantly working to attract more flight connections and they have managed to find another one: Menorca in the Balearic Islands.

This flight will run all year round, so it is not seasonal, and is thanks to an agreement with the Consell de Menorca. That administration will put the flight connection out to tender, which is attractive for bidders, because as it is a new, flight connection, they can receive up to 70% off in airport taxes levied by the public entity, Aena, which governs the nation’s airports.

The Granada Board of Tourism has worked with the Balearic administration to bring the Granada-Menorca flights into being, along the same lines as the Granada-Santander one.

It should be remembered that the budget airline, Volotea, was the airline that landed the Granada-Nantes flight, which only operates during the summer; the same route was taken over by Vueling, keeping it as a seasonal service This new air route, however, will be all year round, flying twice a week .

Up until now, the only way to fly from Granada to Menorca was with a connection flight, making the flight last between three-and-a-half hours up to almost seven, depending on the wait to catch the connection flight.

Ever since the Covid pandemic, Granada Airport (leading to Easyjet giving up its operations there) has suffered a slow loss of connectivity, however with the recent addition of Santander, Nantes and now Menorca things are starting to open up again.

The figures for Granada Aiport for 2025 are that it handled 1,152,872 passengers, which represents a small increas of 1.7% over the preceeding year.

Flights to Gatwick happend in the spring and into late summer. Prices were about the same as to Málaga. But of course half the distance from Salobrena. Although advertised as mid week and weekend. Flights seemed to be just once a week. Surely they would get more passengers to and from gatwick. The flights always seemed very full. Shame. It’s a nice airport..
