Village Football Grounds Revamped

Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya announced with glee around mid January that work had begun on La Herraduras football ground, Las Tejas.

The work means to carry out an “integral overhaul of the facilities, increasing safety standards for all local sports enthusiasts.”

They started by digging up the pitch, armed with a budget of 389,094 euros, just for replacing the artificial turf for one of “the latest generation, designed to improved professional output and minimise injuries.” Is it made of rubber?

Anyway, Mayor Ruiz Joya popped along to Las Tejas for the photoshoot where he announced, “Today we are responding to a fundamental demand from residents,” adding, “Spending 429,000 euros on this football ground, which invests in our youth and sports base.”

Rising in oratory magnificence, he stated, “We want clubs and sports schools to be able to count on top-category installations, to a standard that our municipality deserves.” It would have been more stirring had the municipal band be present, of course.

But it’s not only the pitch that will be upgraded, as the project includes an additional budget of approximately 40,000 euros for other tasks, such as the replacement of goal nets and the grandstand seating will be replaced, as well as improving the installations’ perimeter and fencing.
