Whipped & Raped

A female illegal immigrant fell victim to a man with whom she had crossed paths with in the city of Granada.

She hardly speaks Spanish and was homeless and this ‘Good Samaritan’ convinced her to go home with him where he would give her shelter, as she had nowhere else.

He even promised to marry her so that she could obtain Spanish citizenship but it was all a lie, as she was soon to discover when her nightmare began.

On the very first day that she spent in his house, he beat her with a belt, according to the court sentence which had found him guilty of all kinds of physical abuse.

There is no chance of his appealing to a higher, by the way, because he admitted to the charges against him in the oral hearing.

What can only be described as a flogging, took place on the 5th of November, 2019, which was followed three days later with her being raped; she little resisted as he had threatened to throw her out onto the streets if she did and she had nowhere else to go.

As a result of the sexual abuse, the woman suffered physical and psychological harm, leaving her with a “neurotic disorder derived from post-traumatic stress,” as a long-term consequence.

He only received a 2-years imprisonment sentence because the “undue delay in the investigation of the crime” was taken as a mitigating circumstance, meaning that the delay in the investigation ended up benefiting the accused.

However, the sentence imposes a restraining order prohibiting the defendant from approaching the victim for five and a half years and orders him to pay 18,000 euros in compensation to the injured party.

The judges (it was a tribunal) agreed to suspend the defendant’s entry into prison on the condition that he does not reoffend for a period of five years.
