A couple of hundred Maro residents spent New Year's Eve in the dark, due to a power outage starting around 19.30h
And this was not a short spell with no electricity because power wasn’t restored until 10.00h next morning. However, it hadn’t affected all of the village but rather just the eastern side of Maro.

Many villagers considered that this situation was “outragous” as the power outage was the second in only four days. The hardest hit were the elderly who relied on electricity for their heating.
Maro might not have many business establishments in the hospitality sector but it was certainly a disaster for any restaurant or bar that had a New-Year’s-Eve party planned (cotillón).
As for the First Councillor, Nuchi Moreno, he said, “It is inadmissible that in the middle of New Year’s Eve, Maro is left without power.”
The utility company, Endesa got a good roasting on social media because this incident followed a problem that was supposed to be fixed.
