Autónomos begin the year with no changes to their social security contributions, as the government has finally abandoned its neferious plan.
It had previously announced that it would raise the contributions paid to Social Security for the 3.5 million, self-employed workers in Spain but the controversy generated forced it to backtrack because it would have seen some autónomos having to pay considerably more per month.
We covered this original price hike in an online article.
Well, Minister Elma Saiz backtracked and presented a new offer with a minimal increase of between 2.91 and 14.75 euros per month, which also failed to convince the workers unions.
Finally, Minister Saiz announced, “The contribution table for self-employed workers for 2026 remains unchanged from 2025,” but warned, “As you know, the protection of the self-employed is inextricably linked to their contributions,” referring to the fact that their pensions will not be improved in comparison to the retirement of a salaried worker.
