Gave Himself Up

A man who brutally assaulted his ex-partner in Motril last month gave himself up to the Guardia Civil in Dúrcal after realising that he was slowly being ‘cornered’ by a police manhunt.

The 37-year-old victim remains in the ICU with life-threatening injuries to her liver, pancreas, and spleen, as well as broken ribs, following a sustained attack that her family described as “torture.”

Both parties involved had denounced each other on a previous occasion. In fact, both of them had stood trial on the 15th of September, accused of mutual acts of aggression. However, charges against the man were dropped because only he had provided a medical report on his injuries at that time. The result was that she had a restraining order placed upon her.

In this latest case of assault, ending with the woman hospitalised, the attack occurred at the family home where the couple previously lived with their three children. The victim’s family alleges that the man had threatened to kill their children to keep her from screaming for help.

After giving himself up, the suspect has been remanded in custody without bail. He exercised his right to remain silent during court appearances
