La Herradura’s Nativity Scene

The La Herradura Municipal Nativity Scene was set up in the Pepe Gámez, exhibition hall in the Centro Cívico on the 13th.

At the inauguration, the parish priest, Father Fernando Rodríguez, even blessed it. Rumours that he also did a rain dance and then yodelled the Nigerian National Anthem are utterly false.

At the event there was also a performance by Coro Cosas Nuestras, singing Christmas carols, as well as pestiños (a type of fried pastry) and roscos (a ring-shaped, bread roll) knocked out by the Asociación de Mayores Virgen del Carmen.

The Belén (Nativity Scene) was built by Paco Camacho who has taken several years putting it together and thrn adding more and more to it.

The Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, and the First Councillor for the village, Elena Mora, handed out prizes to the school kids from Las Gaviotas school as winners of the Christmas Card Contest.

Now, the Municipal Nativity Scene is not a couple of Wheetabix boxes, painted and cellotaped to a table but rather an impressive layout replicating a significant portion of Calle Prieto Moreno, including the Centro Cívico, Panadería de La Herradura, and the fountain on the roundabout where it joins the beach road.
