GP Appointments

The public-health systems (each region has its own) appear to be falling down on providing GP coverage without having to wait.

It appears that waiting times just to get to see your GP haven’t been this bad since the Covid pandemic and the wait to get an appointment with a specialist has increased by a fortnight since this summer. As for patients with mental issues, many have turned to paying for private appointments.

Obviously, this varies depending on which region you live in. However, the general opinion shared by Spaniards across the country is that less than half consider the public, health coverage positively.

These were the finding of the Barómetro Sanitario del Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (National Opinion Polls Service) concerning a poll carried out last month consulting thousands of Spaniards.

Eight out of every ten Spaniards who need to visit their GP or paediatrician cannot get an appointment in the first 48 hours and the average wait is 9.78 days.

A quarter of those asked replied that they couldn’t get an appointment in their centro de salud because of service saturation and because of this, 53% decided to go a hospital A&E even though their ailment did not warrant using it.
