Here We Go!

Almuñécar Councillor Rafael Caballero announced yesterday morning that the contract for the work on Paseo de La Caletilla had been awarded.

Aquaterra Servicios e Infraestructuras won the contract, which has a budget of €1,885,686 . Sixteen other companies vyied for the job.

Councillor Caballero considered that the project was one of the “most symbolic and eagerly awaited projects for residents and visitors,” adding, “We have taken a decisive step towards the comprehensive restoration of a space as beloved as La Caletilla.”

He explained that the project “combines tradition, modernity, and environmental sensitivity, restoring the beauty that this paseo deserves.”

Readers who live in Almuñécar might be surprised to learn that the project was, “eagerly awaited” rather than dreading the chaos that it will produce but…

The project covers an area of approximately 4,300 sq/m using a paving design that can already be seen on Paseo del Altillo, for example, as well as in other areas of town. The paseo will also have “sculptural railings integrated with benches, planters, and viewpoints overlooking the sea and Los Peñones del Santo.

After the whole road has been ripped up, they will change a lot of the underground infrastructure, such as rain drains, mains-water suppy, electricity & telephone cables (fibre optic).

Now, what readers might really like to know is how long is this main artery going to look like the Somme 1916? According to the Town Hall, it will take ten months *cough!*

Editorial comment: there was no mention of whether those ten (elastic?) months would run through a Semana Santa or summer-holiday period, meaning that the quickest way to go from the Paseo del Altillo to San Cristobal would be by taking a ferry to North Africa and three days on a camel before landing on the said beach in an open boat together with people light on paperwork.

Smile, it could be worse… they could have just as easily decided to litter the new paseo with concrete avocados a-la-N-340 junctions.
