Rules Section Reopens Early?

The Ministry of Transport will restore traffic on the A-44 motorway once the main repair work on the Rules viaduct is completed, which could be sooner than originally expected!

The Ministry informed that thanks to the “good progress” of the work the A-44 over Rules Reservoir it will be reopened at 13.00h on Friday, November the 21st. Yes, that’s this Friday!

But before you break out the farting cushions and helium-filled balloons for making ridiculous voices… this is temporary and will only be during the Christmas period. Yes, Christmas comes early this year!

Therefore, From January 13th to February 27th, it will be necessary to close the A-44 autovía again and the alternative traffic routes will be put back into action: i.e., between junction 167 (Ízbor) and junction 175 (Vélez de Benaudalla).

You might have noticed that February the 27th is the eve of El Día de Andalucía – Surprise! Here’s our original article on the road works from September.

During this second work slot they will install the new supports and transfer the load from the current pillar 4 to the new pillar 5, as well as work on the north and south abutments, asphalting road surfaces, and sorting the expansion joints.

Editorial mathmatical gymnastics: So let’s do some Maths: from the 21st of November to the 19th of December (the original completion date) there are 28 days… and between the 13th of January and the 27th of February there are: 19+27= 46 days. So, bringing it forward to this Friday merely disguises the fact that the job is actually going to take longer… 18 days longer. That is plain sneaky! Or am I missing something because there was never any talk of the job taking longer than the 19th of December? And of course, ending just prior to the Día de Andalucía leads us to suspect that it will continue after that bank-holiday.
