Drugs Bust in Almuñécar

A Guardia Civil operation in Almuñécar dismantled a drugs operation which specialised in stealing other gangs' 'merchandise,' on the Costa Tropical.

Police operation Almuelco25 produced eight arrests on charges of drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal organisation, two of those arrested were also charged with resisting arrest.

The police operation began in October when a Guardia-Civil patrol based in Almuñécar surprised several individuals wearing masks, unloading their vehicles into a dwelling. The black-plastic rubbish bags contained marihuana.

Upon seeing the officers approaching, the men scattered, some into the dwelling whom the officers chased, managing to force their way in before the gang members could lock the door. A struggle ensued and led to their detention. These were the two charged with resisting arrest.

Officers searched the dwelling and discovered 220 marihuana plants recently harvested inside the plastic sacks. The police investigation later concluded that the marihuana had come from a greenhouse in Salobreña.

Officers belonging to the Guardia Civil in Salobreña had rumbled the greenhouse and found clues to the infrastructure having been broken into and the crop removed but even so, they found a further 120 plants there. The greenhouse owner was arrested.

Police operation Almuelco25, besides the eleven arrests, also confiscated two vehicles and 340 marihuana plants in total. It remains an ongoing operation and further arrests have not been ruled out.
