A bonfire got out of control on Thursday afternoon down on the vega in Salobreña, next to the N-340, just before the bridge over the river.
Flames and smoke could be seen from the road, causing a distraction to drivers. However, the Motril Fire Service soon dealt with it.

It appears that the farmer had decided to burn cuttings, etc and it got out of control, rather than being a deliberate arson, which is often the case on this vega, evidently.
The Department of Citizen Safety reminds everyone of the importance of taking extreme precautions when lighting a bonfire, especially on windy days or with high temperatures, to prevent the flames from spreading out of control.
