Roundabout Work Recommences

The Almuñécar Councillor for Obras Públicas, Francisco Rodríguez, said that work on the N-340 roundabouts that runs through Almuñécar would restart on Monday the 22nd of last month.

It will be remembered that the road authorities, DGT, told Almuñécar to stop buggering about on this road whilst summer traffic was streaming through. The Councillor mentioned this as a way of pointing out that it wasn’t the Town Hall’s fault that work was stopped, perhaps.

Anyway, the tarting up of these junctions is part of a project entitled, Gran Eje Verde,  (Great Green Axis), apparently, does nothing to improve traffic flow by turning them into roundabouts. In fact, the only real roundabout (Los Pinos/International School) was completely unnecessary, so one wonders whether there were ‘interests’ involved.

The main thing is that Councillor Rodríguez is a happy bunny, as expressed by his own words: “We are very happy to get this initiative up and running, which is financed through the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística, and we hope that we shall soon be able to announce its conclusion.”

The budget was a quarter of a million (EU funding), basically in order to put giant, half avocados on some of them, which is an excellent way to distract drivers when passing through a junction that requires their full attention.

So, the question is, what will be finished first; the Municipal Market or the junctions with Triffids? Who’s betting on the latter?
