Twin-Lane Connection Finished

The new, twin-lane connection between the A-7 autovia (the Motril-Port Branch) and the town centre was inaugurated last Friday.

The task involved turning the old road (Camino de las Ventillas GR-5209) single-lane traffic into a dual carriageway, complete with a spacious roundabout. The work not only involved widening the road to accommodate a total of four lanes (two in either direction) but also eliminating some of the bends.

The section of road affected is from the roundabout at the beginning of Avenida Sierra Nevada as far as the Plaza de Toros, along which a bicycle lane and street lighting now include.

The project had a total budget of 1,989,219 euros, finance by the Town Hall, the Provincial Council the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical and the Compensation Board for the SUS-MOT6 de Motril.

Editorial comment: the PP under Mayor Chamorro has improved road communications considerably during its terms in office, including the twin-lane bypass from the port road to the Vadillo Trading Estate, and a similar road layout between the said trading estate and the tanatorio (mortuary) road, so credit is deserved.
