Órgiva saw a small campo fire on the 18th after fireworks for a birthday party set light to a wooded area.
Thanks to the investigation work carried out by Infoca, the culprits behind the fire in the Las Barreras area of the municipality were soon identified. The investigators found the remains of fireworks at the scene.

The police had also questioned eyewitnesses who said that a nearby birthday party had used fireworks, including rockets.
Infoca had to deploy two fire trucks, whose crews managed to catch the fire and put it out before it got to big too handle.
Well, the birthday present that it going to be handed out will be quite a steep fine. Happy Birthday!

Reader’s comment: “I absolutely love a good fireworks display. However it seems to me to be beyond madness to be allowed to set off fireworks and build “fiesta” bonfires in the season where normal fires are prohibited. Even those events that have the presence of the Bomberos are risky as the embers and spent fireworks can be blown far from the controlled area. Perhaps limit these summer displays to those on the beach and ban setting off fireworks in line with the timetable for Campo fires.” – Margaret Gray
