A greenhouse worker in his mid-40s had to be evacuated by helicopter from La Mamola to the Hospital Clínico San Cecilio in Granada.
The accident occurred a little before 09.00h yesterday, which was when the emergency coordination centre, 112, received an alert to say a worker had suffered a serious accident involving machinery in a greenhouse. The 44-year old’s leg had become trapped in a machine.

An ambulance with paramedics onboard was despatched together with personnel from the Motril fire service and the Guardia Civil, as well as the Polopos municipal police.
As the greenhouse was in an area with difficult access, as it is located on a steep hillside close to the beach, an emergency helicopter was also requested.
The fire personnel immediately set about freeing the victim’s leg, which was a complicated task that required fast work because of the seriousness of his injuries.
Once the paramedics had stabilised his condition, he was carefully carried on a stretcher down to the beach where the helicopter was waiting to evacuate the victim.
