Padul Mugging

The Guardia Civil managed to identify two minors who mugged a 70-year-old woman in Padul last month.

Being brave, strong heroes they were unable to get her handbag but did manage to push her to the ground, bruising her badly.

The family of the victim immediately reported the mugging to the Guardia Civil and it wasn’t long before they had both of the louts identified and arrested and the Public Prosecutor for Minors informed.

According to the victim’s daughter, her mother who has trouble being able to recall details of the mugging, explained that she had been walking along Calle Real when she was set upon by two youths aged 15 and 17. They tried to snatch her handbag but she resisted but fell flat on her face, so they dragged her along about two metres trying to get the bag from her. Having failed in their objects they ran off.

Chance would have it that the daughter runs a nearby business and witnesses took her to her daughter who attended to her cuts, before taking her to Urgencias so that they could obtain a medical report for the Guardia Civil.

On a positive note, the victim said that this is the only time that has happened to her in her 70 years so it is unlikely to come round again.

The attack was caught on CCTV although a tree obscured what happened a little, but the images were sufficient to ID the two suspects.

There has been a collection of signatures demanding more police present as the town with its 7,000 inhabitants only has five Local-Police officers to demand, only three of whom are available for duty at the moment.

Following the incident, one of the minors went round to the house of the victim, accompanied by his mother, to apologise to her. She advised him not to go down that path that he had been taking.
