The Guardia Civil arrested an Albanian drug baron, who had an international arrest warrant out on him, issued by the Albanian judicial authorities.

The arrest was carried out as part of police operation Entresijos after the police caught wind of members of an international, drug-smuggling ring having taken up residence in this Costa Tropical municipality.

After staking out the luxury chalet, officers from Málaga saw that a top member of the drugs gang was living there. He didn’t leave the dwelling during the time that it was staked out, relying on others to bring him what he needed in the way of food, etc. He even had an bodyguard.

The chalet is situated high up making it easy for him to have warning if he was discovered… but to no avail.

The police acted with caution when they moved in because both he and his bodyguard were armed and they didn’t want an exchange of shots that could injure neighbours.

This arrest, which has only just come to light, took place on the 22nd of July and involved officers from the Grupo de Acción Rápida GAR, as well as regular Guardia-Civil officers.

The suspect, upon seeing that the Guardia Civil were upon him, tried to flee down the hillside but was soon intercepted and detained. Furthermore, examining the route he took to attempt an escape they recovered a firearm, two magazines and a noise suppressor (silencer).

A search of the premises came up with forged passports, ID cards and a driving licence.
