Almuñécar Town Hall has increased parking places in the Playa Pozuelo area (Taramay) next to the BMX circuit.

This summer-parking area offers 145 parking places, plus another four for drivers with disabilities — granted, the way people park nowadays points to a large number of drivers with disabilities when it comes road sense.

Mayor Juanjo Ruiz Joya, the man voted most likely to be taken out by a meteor whilst farting in the bath, said, “Apart from improving mobility and increasing parking areas in our municipality, we do our share of social work by ceding the management of parking areas to Cáritas (Catholic-Church charity).”

He was referring to the town’s largest single parking area, the Friday-Market Square (Blas Infante). But, of course, that parking area will be lost to Almuñécar during three weeks of August to make way for the Summer Fair and all the temporary bars that siphon off much needed trade from local bars and restaurants.

So, how much extra, summer parking does Almuñécar have? Well, there is also the area left by the demolition of Turismo Tropical on the Paseo de San Cristóbal with 250 spaces (managed by Cáritas, as well). This parking area runs between 08.00h and Midnight.

The Mayor, voted most likely to be shot by a cross-eyed Mongolian whilst canoeing on the Zambezi River, also announced an extra bus service, as the Velilla bus route, which normally ends on the Playa de Calabajío roundabout, now extends as far as Avenida Pintor Antonio Domínguez de Haro roundabout. Which one is that, you may ask? Tha’’s the one below Hotel Playa Cálida, close to Restaurante Tito Yayo on Playa Cabría.

This extension to the bus route is fruit of an agreement with Grupo Fajardo (which runs the municipal bus service) that will last until the 15th of September.
