There was a serious case of animal cruelty in Dúrcal on a piece of farmland, where two horses were left, tied up with no water nor shade, one of which died.
As a consequence, the Guardia Civil arrested a 59-year-old man, charging him with animal cruelty.

It was on the 3rd of July that a Seprona patrol, based in Las Gabias, was called out to investigate a complaint that a horse was literally dying after being neglected by its owner.
When they arrived it was to find one of the horses had already perished from thirst and heat stroke. The animal had a chain around its neck which was staked into the ground, denying any movement to find shade.
The other horse had had better luck as it had been free to roam that piece of land.
The officers alerted the veterinary surgeon belonging to the Oficina Comarcal Agraria (OCA) to give a report on the situation of the two horses and establish a possible cause of death, for the animal that had been dead for over twelve hours.
Apart from the lack of water and shade, the hooves of both horses were completely overgrown and both showed signs of malnutrition.
The vet used a chip reader to find out who the owner was and he was soon found and arrested. He appeared before the Juzgado de Instrucción de Guardia de Granada.
Editorial comment: off with his pods! The lamentable thing is that if found guilty he will only be barred from owning or working with animals for a short period instead of for life.
