Beach Closed until Monday

The Junta Health Authorities have extended the swimming ban off Carchuna beach in the Perla area until Monday after further sampling.

The Second Councillor for this semi-independent town (which is a municipal dependency of Motril), Juan Alberto Ferrer, said that they had immediately put up warnings yesterday.

He pointed out that the rest of the beach is safe to use as it now only affects in front of Urbanización La Perla from La Pantana up to Catillo.

Motril Town Hall has also ordered an independent water-quality inspection via a private firm to carry out parallel sampling for intestinal enterococcus. Councillor Ferrer says that they take this situation very seriously.

He also said that the lifeguards on duty this weekend along the beach will be using a megaphone to inform bathers at the accesses to the beach and will also inform each group of beachgoers who set up their beach gear along Playa El Calahonda.

“We know that Sunday will be the busiest day and we don’t want people to enter the water there by mistake,” said lifeguard one of the lifeguards.

Update: the restriction was lifted on Monday the 14th.
