Severe Burns Incident

A 33-year-old man has been hospitalised after suffering 2nd & 3rd-degree burns in a sushi restaurant in Málaga.

This happened on the Sunday the 29th at the Restaurante Sushi Saki within the Plaza Mayor, shopping centre around 23.00h.

Sources say that the victim was dining at a table on the terrace with a his girlfriend and a friend when a waiter lit a container used to heat food with flammable liquid, known as fire gel. The heater had gone out, which was why the waiter was refilling it, causing it to burst into flames.

The victim was very badly burnt and immediately taken to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, which specialises in burns cases.

Witnesses told police that the man’s clothes had been set on fire; hence the amount and degree of burns received to his face, neck, chest and arms, affecting approximately 20% of his body surface area.
