Not Happy with Breakwater

As the Mayor of Motril feared, the work on the breakwater on Playa Granada continues despite the onset of summer and high, beach occupation.

Mayor Chamorro has complained to the Servicio Provincial de Costas in Granada that the works have not kept to schedule as promised. She also said that she had suspected that the situation would end up like this having seen the day-to-day progress on the sea-defence structure.

“However,” she said, “our priority is to act responsibly to guarantee that this delay affects as little as possible, beachgoers and tourist-sector businesses”.

Councillor for Beaches, José Peña, recalls that the work was supposed to conclude before San Juan, which has not been the case, therefore he has requested a meeting with Costas to find out what the real timeline is and to put forwards alternatives that minimise inconveniences.

Such measure would be to schedule the arrival of lorries in the early morning before the beaches begin to fill up; i.e., before 11.00h.
