Toddler in Locked Car

The Policía Local in Guadix were called out by a mother whose child had locked himself in the car in a supermarket parking area.

The mother had phoned the emergency coordination centre (112) to explain that the 2-year-old toddler had go hold of the keys and had locked the door and now she couldn’t open the car to get him out.

A patrol was sent to the supermarket car park and upon arrival saw that the child was showing signs of heat exhaustion, so they broke a side window across for the child so as not to scare him too much.

A staff member from the supermarket brought water so that the boy be cooled down. Afterwards, both the mother and child were taken home in the police vehicle.

Editorial comment: just a broken side window should not have rendered the car unusuable, unless the officers considered that the mother was in too much of a nervous state to concentrate on driving safely.
